NYC Label Launch
The good folks at the Bunker are letting us celebrate our label launch in New York City. And we're psyched to have local techno legend Fred Gianelli headlining. Featuring DJ sets by Smartypants and Heemin Yang.

Unlockedgroove in the news
check out the latest issue of the wire for a glowing review of the new smartypants ep on zer0g sounds. "...recalls early Kompakt's pistoning simplicity, overlaid with Satie-like piano ruminations and pinwheeling little synthesizer details."
and some kind words from about UG001 from the folks at Stylus Magazine. "Considering it’s the debut track of the Unlocked Groove label, Rainbow Bright’s “The Rollah” is the type of thing that makes you sigh in the knowledge that you just might have to buy everything they put out..."
in case you missed it, here's some other press we've gotten recently in the Boston Phoenix (pdf)(pdf), and the Weekly Dig (pdf)

Creative Commons on vinyl
The web 2.0 culture is going nuts about remix culture, and rightly so. We here at Unlockedgroove firmly believe that derivative works can add some serious value to an original piece of music. While some artists choose to restrict their license and enforce copyright, we have agreed amongst ourselves that getting our music out to our audience is much more important than praying for a royalties check that might never arrive.

For these reasons, we have decided to release our music on vinyl under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike-2.5 License. I'm not sure, but this might be the first precident for CC-on-vinyl. Despite having to reproduce the entire dang URL on every record, it really makes perfect sense:
- The main output medium is vinyl, which is extremely hard to copy
- We're dj's, we want people to play our music
- As long as Moby doesn't steal our stuff and make a billion dollars off of it, we want our music to be reworked
So please, listen to our music and spread it far and wide. If you like it and want to support us, please buy a copy. And if you live in the SF area, come hear Scorchio play live this Friday at the EZ5 Lounge.
